To those who has the love and passion for art and baking,
This first blog is about me and how I have turned myself into a cake designer. From time to time, my family, my friends, and I are still surprised at the fact that I'm a cake artist now. This is all because baking is by no means related to what I studied when I was in college. I am a Business Management graduate. After graduation I worked at a bank for a while. One day, I decided that I should go back to school and advance my education. After a week of studying in Global Business Management courses, I felt that I had enough of this. What I wanted to learn was something new. I was not sure what it was at that time, but I knew business was not for me. Night after night, I kept pondering what it was that I truly wanted to do.
During that time, on TTC train (Toronto Transit Commission), there were several advertisements of Baking and Pastry Arts Management program of Centennial College where I was studying. The posters had a paper-made cake standing on a baking book with the headline "Brings Learning to Life". The beautiful cake was simply made of pages from the book. The graphic says it all, clear message and the real-looking picture. To me, it was a very eye-catching design. Every time I walked on a car train, I looked at it. The idea must have slipped into my mind gradually and silently. That one morning I was about to be late for class, so I ran very hard and rushed into the train through the closing doors. It was when I lifted up my face and caught my breath that my eyes stopped right at that poster again. The inside of me said to myself "That's it. This is what I have been looking for". The next day I changed my program to Baking. Although it was abrupt, it was one of the right choices that I have ever made.
Looking back to my childhood, I often went to many bakeries just to scrutinize all the sweet treats. Then I came home and drew them on paper. Even though I had never baked any cakes or pastries, the love for baking was already somewhere in me but I never noticed. It is my true-calling. Sometimes, we do not know what we want until we actually lay our hands on it. The more I have been working on baking and designing cakes, the more I love it. Every time there are new tools, I want to have them. Every time there are new kinds of cakes and pastries, I want to try them. And, every time there are new cake designs, I want to create a better one. I not only keep my love of baking going on but also want to share it with everybody.
Many of us may have different career paths. However, if you come across my blog and have a passion for cakes, we are on the same team, Baking Team.
Let's bake and share!
